#MyBluePacific2050 - Amplifying Youth Voices for Pacific Leadership
Turning a regional strategy into a youth-led movement
Partner: Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS)
What We Did
We helped transform the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent from a high-level policy framework into a youth-driven regional conversation.
The campaign competition encouraged young Pacific Islanders to submit their own 2-minute video outlining their personal 2050 vision for the Blue Pacific Content.
Three winners were selected to attend the Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting in the Cook Islands as youth social media ambassadors – directly connecting grassroots voices with regional leadership.
This campaign became one of the most visible and participatory regional youth engagement initiatives in recent years – positioning young Pacific Islanders as co-authors of the region’s long-term vision.
Challenge
The 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent sets out an ambitious vision for climate action, ocean stewardship, economic development and cultural resilience. But its policy language risked remaining distant from the very generation that will live its outcomes.
Pacific youth are among the most climate-impacted in the world – and increasingly vocal. The challenge was to translate a complex intergovernmental strategy into something youth-centred, culturally resonant and digitally shareable across vast geographic distances.
Strategy
We translated the 2050 Strategy from policy language into a simple, powerful question: “What does #MyBluePacific2050 mean to you?”.
We structured the campaign as a regional video competition, inviting two-minute submissions interpreting the Blue Pacific vision.
We produced short video profiles featuring relatable young Pacific voices interpreting the strategy in everyday terms – climate justice, culture, ocean identity, opportunity and leadership.
We partnered with digital influencers, such as Moemoana Safaʻatoʻa Schwenke, whose digital presence connected strongly with youth audiences.
We collaborated with regional youth networks such as Young Pacific Leaders to expand reach and provided online training sessions in digital storytelling
